Kalorik MAXX Air Fryer Warning: What to Do If You Own One

The Kalorik MAXX air fryer oven with French doors is now under a federal safety warning, and the companies behind it will not fix the problem. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says the glass doors can suddenly close on your arm while the oven is on. If you own one, stop using it today.

I spent this morning reading the CPSC notice, NBC Chicago’s report and a Costco member letter dated October 19. The money side is what stuck with me. There is no manufacturer recall, so whether you get a refund depends on where you bought the oven. Here is what I found, and what I would do in your kitchen.

What the Kalorik MAXX air fryer warning says

CPSC posted the warning on October 15, 2026 (warning number 27-033). It covers two models, the MAXX and the MAXX Advance, when they have the French doors. Those are two spring-loaded glass doors with metal handles.

The hazard is simple. CPSC’s investigation found that a door can swing shut on your arm while the oven is hot. The agency knows of dozens of reported burns, and at least one report describes scarring that looks like a second-degree burn.

A warning is not a recall, and that matters here

Most product safety stories end with a recall, which means the company offers a refund, a repair or a replacement. This one does not. CPSC says the original importers, Team International Group of America and Kalorik, LLC, went out of business, so they cannot run a recall. The current brand owner, The Legacy Companies, LLC, declined to take part in one.

So CPSC did the only thing left. It told people to stop using the oven and dispose of it. I also opened Kalorik’s own recall page today and found no notice on it. Honestly, that gap bothers me most. A warning keeps you from getting burned, but it does not give you your money back.

How to tell if you own an affected Kalorik MAXX air fryer

What it looks like

Look for a countertop oven with two glass doors that meet in the middle, metal handles and the Kalorik name. The warning says these ovens were sold under several SKUs, item numbers and model numbers. They differ mainly by the number of accessories or the display panel, so do not hunt for one exact number. If yours is a Kalorik MAXX or MAXX Advance with French doors, treat it as covered.

When and where it sold

CPSC lists two sales windows. The original importers sold it from April 2020 to January 8, 2024, and The Legacy Companies sold it again after June 23, 2025. That second window means a newer oven is not automatically a safe one.

The warning names Walmart, Home Depot, Kalorik.com, Amazon and other specialty retailers. NBC Chicago adds Costco to the list.

What to do with your Kalorik MAXX air fryer today

Here is the order I would follow.

  1. Stop using it and unplug it. CPSC says to stop immediately.
  2. Take photos. Snap the model label, the doors and your receipt or order page, because you may need them for a refund request.
  3. Check where you bought it. The next two sections cover Costco and everywhere else.
  4. Report any burn. Use SaferProducts.gov or call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772.
  5. Dispose of it last. Do not throw it out before you know whether the store wants it back.

If you bought your Kalorik MAXX air fryer at Costco

This is the good news. Costco’s letter says its records show members who bought item #1510875, the Kalorik Maxx Airfryer, between December 2020 and November 2023. It tells them to stop using the oven and “return the item to your local Costco for a full refund.” Costco also lists the notice on its recalls page.

If you think you bought one but never got the letter, the letter points members to Costco customer service.

If you bought it anywhere else

I could not find a refund announcement from Walmart, Home Depot or Amazon. That does not mean you will get nothing. It means nobody has promised anything yet, so I would contact the store, show them the CPSC warning and ask. Amazon and Walmart also host third-party sellers, so your order page will show who actually sold it. Orders from Kalorik.com go back to The Legacy Companies, which declined a recall, so that is the hardest case.

How to get rid of it

CPSC says to dispose of the oven following local hazardous waste disposal procedures. Rules differ by city and county, so I would call my local waste or recycling office and ask how they want an appliance like this handled. Please do not sell it, donate it or leave it on the curb with a free sign. Someone else would end up with the same doors.

What to look for in your next air fryer oven

The warning covers these Kalorik ovens only. CPSC did not say French-door air fryers in general are unsafe, so there is no need to panic about every oven in a store. Still, this is how I would shop after reading the file.

  • Look up the brand and model on the CPSC recalls list before you pay.
  • Read the one-star reviews for phrases like “door slammed” or “burned my arm.” Patterns show up fast.
  • Test the doors in the store if you can. They should stay where you leave them instead of swinging back.
  • Skip used listings of the Kalorik ovens, even at a big discount.

Warnings like this show up more often than you would think. I covered another household one in the toothpaste recall post, and the same habit applies: check what is already in your kitchen before you buy more.

Quick answers

Can I use it carefully until I get a replacement? CPSC says to stop using it immediately, so I would not. The doors can close without warning, and a hot oven gives you no time to react.

Will Kalorik pay me back? Not right now. The brand owner declined to join a recall, and the original importers are out of business.

Will there be a formal recall? CPSC has not announced one. You can sign up for CPSC’s email alerts if you want to hear about any change.

The short version

CPSC says to stop using any Kalorik MAXX or MAXX Advance air fryer oven with French doors, because the doors can slam shut on your arm, and there is no brand recall. Costco will refund item #1510875, so check your receipt and contact the store where you bought yours before you dispose of it.
